The Ansor paramilitary wing (Banser) of Sidoarjo, East Java, will participate in securing Christmas and New Year's celebrations by deploying some 200 members.<br />

While Sidoarjo police will also beef up security by deploying some 575 personnel to secure the annual events in anticipating any possible terror attacks.<<>br />

Chairman of Ansor Youth Movement of Sidoarjo HM Agus Ubaidillah said that the NU youth wing along with security officials would take part in securing the celebrations.<br />
<br />
He added that the Central Board of Ansor in Jakarta had formerly instructed all Ansor members across the country to help conduct maximum protection for the sake of safety for Christians worshiping on Christmas, and New Year’s celebrations.<br />

"This (activity) is to follow up instructions of the Central Board of Ansor," he told reporters here over the weekend.<br />

Agus cited things related to technical details in dealing with efforts of securing the celebrations would be handled by chairman of the Sidoarjo's Banser Technical Unit Coordinator, saying that such places of worship as churches even located in villages would be focused.<br />

"The security will be heightened as Christians hold mass on December 24-25," he said. (dar)
