</strong></em>Indonesian British Council would continuosly support purposeful efforts in developing Islamic boarding “pesantren” schools in increasing quality in the era of globalization andinternationalization. </font></p>
<p><font face="Verdana">The statement above was said by Deputy Foundation of British Council Gerard Lemos CMG and the Director of British Council Mike Hardy OBE on Monday (26/2).</font></p><>
<p><font face="Verdana">Present also at the occasion Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama HM Rozy Munir, accompanied by Maskuri Abdillah (chairman), Sri Mulyati (Muslimat NU), and Syaiful Bahri Anshori (Vice Secretary. </font></p>
<p><font face="Verdana">Both sides are now focusing on information communication and technology (ICT).</font></p>
<p><font face="Verdana">Through the introduction of the ICT to the pesantren circles, it’s expected to be able to give such contribution to them in facing the globalization era.<br />
Mike said in coming years there will be notebooks with comparable price amounted to about USD 100 available in markets. It expectedly enable santris to access any sources from what called as the internet and to communicate through email.</font></p>
<p><font face="Verdana">While Maskuri Abdillah who now serves as the chairman of NU explained that the NU teachers were really in need of the ICT in fulfilling the requirements of academic certification obliged by the government. </font></p>
<p><font face="Verdana">Masykuri said ”NU sshools are now in need of laboratorium equipment” for natural sciences and computer as well.</font></p>
<p><font face="Verdana">At the same time the Vice Chairman of NU Ma’arif Sri Mulyati suggested that her institution had so far cooperate with Jermany Hans Seidel Foundation in giving a training for vocational teachers in Nangroe Aceh Darussalam. </font></p>
<p><font face="Verdana">At the meantime the chairman of NU for foreign affairs HM Rozy Munir stressed the importance of pesantren empowerment as an effort to increase quality of Indonesia’ human resources. The empowerment of pesantren circles would expectedly disseminate the broad interesting of knowledge. The relationship between clerics and social surroundings would lead to the transformation of knowledge and the sustainability of economic development. (mkf)<br />
