General Chairman of the CEntral Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi said that organizationally the Nahdlatul Ulama Legal Service and Aid Institute (LPBHNU) did not help defend the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) and its leader Riziq Shihab that is now on trial on charges of inciting his followers to make Sunday's violent action in the National Monument Square. <br />

Hasyim made the statement to clarify the acknowledgment of chairman of the LPBHNU Sholeh Amin at the Jakarta police headquarters on MOnday (9/6). As reported Amin said that the LPBHNU would take part in defending Riziq Shihab.<><br />

"He defends Habib Riziq for his capacity as a professional lawyer," Hasyim said by phone here on Monday (9/6), adding that the PBNU could not forbid him to do it.<br />

Chief of the Islam Defenders` Front (FPI) Habib Rizieq and six FPI members were named suspects and arrested by the Jakarta Police for the recent violent incident in National Monument (Monas), central Jakarta.<br />

The violent action committed by the FPI against the masses of the National Alliance for Freedom of Religion and Beliefs (AKKBB) at the National Monument (Monas) Square in Jakarta.<br />
<br />
The AKKBB carried out a peaceful activity at the national monument square. But on the sidelines of their activity, around 200 people using FPI attributes suddenly stormed to the Monas Square where the Alliance`s activists were having a peaceful activity.<br />
<br />
The FPI masses went after and beat the Alliance`s activists most of whom were women with sticks while shouting anti Ahmadiyah sect`s yells.<br />
<br />
Shortly later, security personnel arrived to the site to protect the participants of the National Alliance from the attacks of the FPI cadres.<br />
<br />
FPI Demonstration Coordinator Munarman said his side disagreed with the street rally of the AKKBB activists in support of the Ahmadiyah in this country.<br />
<br />
In addition, Munarwam also urged the government to immediately carry out the decision of the Public as basis to ban the Ahmadiyah. (mkf)
