Maarif NU calls for strengthening Islam Washatiyah in schools

Jakarta, <span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-style: italic;">NU Online</span></span><br>Ma'arif NU, a leading educational institution has Encouraged the existence of so-called Islam Wasathiyah (moderate Islam) in the 2013 curriculum on the sidelines of a full-day focused study at the NU headquarters in Jakarta on Thursday.<br><br>The chairman of Ma'arif NU, H Arifin Junaidi said, one of the reasons behind the need to reverse Islam Wasathiyah was the importance of coloring the nationality-based values at the school level. This effort, he continued, was a step to deal with the 'right' Islamic movement which is already inherent in the education system.<br><br>"We can enter into all lines with the aim of tackling a khilafah state. The way they use is to consider the works of Muslims like the book of barzanji for example," Arifin Junaidi said.<br><br>According to Arifin, despite having the same meaning, but using the term Islam Wasathiyah is more 'safe' and not resistant compared to another term so-called 'Islam Nusantara'.<br><br>Present in the event were chairman of the Indonesian Waqf Board who is also former Minister of Education M.
